Faculty and staff at Alfred University enjoyed a smorgasbord provided by several food trucks lined up on Academic Alley on Monday, May 6. Food offerings included veggie burritos (AVI); tacos, burritos and bowls (Biggie’s Burritos); poutine and fries (Buckaroo’s); barbecue and salads (Dark Horse Saloon); wraps, coffee, specialty drinks and desserts (Holy Cakes); and chicken wings, burgers, and pierogis (The Old Mill). The event was held for employees, free of charge, courtesy of the Alfred University Board of Trustees.

With several key representatives from the utilities industry on hand, Alfred University on Wednesday, May 8, unveiled a new facility that will be used to prepare students for careers in the growing renewable energy industry.

Alfred University held its 7th Annual All Employee Recognition Reception on Tuesday, May 7. The event—which honored retirees and employees for years of service—was held in Ade Hall, with light refreshments and beverages.

Alfred University, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and Vitricity, a consulting company focusing on promoting sustainability in the glass industry, held a meeting Wednesday for wine producers from the Finger Lakes Region to discuss a program researching ways to wash and reuse wine bottles.

Seventeen new members were inducted into the Alfred University’s Alpha Gamma chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation’s oldest and most prestigious honor society for liberal arts and sciences. The inductees were welcomed during an on-campus ceremony on April 19.

An exhibition featuring the work of the late Robert C. Turner ’49, Alfred University alumnus and former professor of ceramic art in the University’s School of Art and Design, will be shown at the Black Mountain College Museum and Arts Center in Asheville, NC.

Artwork by Alfred University Professor of Sculpture Coral Lambert will be exhibited at the Kunstverein Kreis Gutersloh E.V. gallery, in Gutersloh, Germany, from May 25 through July 7. Lambert’s work appears in the two-person show alongside Marsha Pels, titled “Seite an Seite,” described as “an exhibition of Skulptur/Objekt/Video”

David Gottfried, deputy director of the Center for Advanced Ceramic Technology (CACT) at Alfred University, participated on a panel discussion held May 1 during the American Ceramic Society’s annual Ceramics Expo.

Examples of the travel photojournalism of the late Caroline Littell of Alfred will be on view May 2 through June 26 in the main-floor gallery of Alfred University’s Scholes Library. For a time in the late 1970s, Littell was employed at Alfred University as director of the school’s language laboratory and overseas study program. She died in Pasadena, CA, in 2015.
