News Image Alfred University School of Art and Design hosting 'Parallel Frequencies' by glass artists 1/26/15

The School of Art and Design at Alfred University will show “Parallel Frequencies,” an exhibition of six glass artists, including five alumni, in the Cohen Gallery beginning Friday, Jan. 30.

There will be an opening reception Friday from 5-7 p.m.; the public is invited.  Featuring work by Robin Cass ’98, Amie McNeel, Rachel Moore ’01, Jackie Pancari ’96, Kait Rhoads ’01, and Norwood Viviano’95, the exhibition runs through Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015.

News Image Former Saxon football great gets Super Bowl officiating nod 1/26/15

Fifteen years into his career as a National Football League umpire, Bill Schuster has made it to the game’s biggest stage.

Schuster, a 1981 graduate of Alfred University and former All-American end for the Saxons, has been tabbed to serve as the umpire of the officiating crew for Super Bowl XLIX. The game between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks will be played Feb. 1 in Phoenix, AZ.

Fifteen years into his career as a National Football League (NFL) umpire, Bill Schuster has made it to the game’s biggest stage.

News Image Class of 2010 duo opens Lexington Glassworks in Asheville, NC 1/22/15

Lexington Glassworks, the creation of owners/glass artists Billy Guilford and Geoff Koslow, both members of the AU Class of 2010, is now open at 81 S. Lexington Ave., downtown Asheville, NC. The 5,000-square-foot contemporary glassblowing studio and gallery features live demonstrations, custom lighting, and handmade glass; future plans include a taproom highlighting local beers served in hand-blown glass.

AU alumna Marion Belanger, Class of 1982, representing Artspace’s “CT (un) Bound,” will participate in a panel discussion and reception at the Yale University Art Gallery (YUAG), 1111 Chapel St., at York, Saturday, Jan. 31, from 1-3 p.m. Attendees may then make their way to Artspace (50 Orange St.) between 3 and 4 p.m., where a panel will feature discussion with “CT (un) Bound” artists, including Alison Safford, Class of 1996. A closing reception for the exhibition will follow.

Buffalo artist Sczerbaniewicz ’95 in ‘High Strangeness’ exhibit 1/13/15

Buffalo artist Gary Sczerbaniewicz, AU Class of 1995, will have a solo exhibition, “High Strangeness,” at the Castellani Art Museum of  Niagara University, Niagara Falls, from Sunday, Jan. 25 through Sunday, May 3, 2015. There will be an opening reception on the first day of the exhibit from 2-4 p.m. Admission is free.
