At Alfred University, athletics are about more than the final score. They’re about teamwork, leadership, and the drive to push beyond your limits. Our Saxons represent Alfred with spirit and determination, while our recreation facilities keep the entire campus community moving. You’ll find that athletics at Alfred offer opportunities for every student to thrive and stay active.
At Alfred, our athletes compete on 27 varsity teams, including 20 NCAA Division III sports, one USCSA (United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association) sport, one NCA (National Cheerleading Association), and two IHSA (Intercollegiate Horse Show Association) sports.
When you become a Saxon, you also have access to club sports such as boxing, archery, golf, and ultimate Frisbee. We also offer intramural sports, including soccer, basketball, and handball.

The new Saxon Hill Sports Complex is a multi-field athletics and recreational facility on Jericho Hill in the town of Alfred. The 200-acre site will provide facilities such as rugby and baseball fields, a sports center, a stadium, and more to support Saxon intercollegiate athletics offerings. The entire campus and Alfred community will use the complex as a resource for improving student experience and well-being.
