Orientation: 2012 Opening Convocation (Required)

The Convocation includes welcoming remarks by President Charles Edmondson and Student Senate President Brian Pierce. Laurie McFadden, University Archivist, will present a memorable address focusing on the history of AU, the community, and its values.

Orientation: Deans’ Meetings (Required)

At this meeting your dean will give an introduction to your college’s programs and requirements.

Orientation: Small Group Discussion (Required)

Talk with members of your class and the faculty from your college about what it means to be a member of the Alfred community. Lunch will be provided.

Orientation: Advising Hours

- Location: Various Locations Throughout Campus
(2:00 PM - 3:30 PM)
An opportunity to meet with your faculty adviser. Getting to know your adviser is essential to your success. Orientation Guides will assist in locating your adviser.

Orientation: Language Placement Exam

- Location: Science Center, Roon Lecture Hall
(3:30 PM - 5:00 PM)
Students who took French or Spanish in high school and plan to continue their study of that same language must take the placement exam. A placement test is also offered in German. A sufficiently high score on the exam allows you to fulfill one or both semesters of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences’ foreign language requirement. This will be your only opportunity to take the exam this fall. Please bring a #2 pencil and your student ID.

Orientation: Maximize the Experience

Don McPherson uses the power and appeal of sports to address complex social issues. At Syracuse, Don set 22 school records, leading the NCAA in passing. Don’s NFL career included playing for the Eagles and Oilers. Don speaks on vital and contemporary issues that impact the lives of every college student.

- Location: Powell Center, Nevins Theater

Take a much needed rest during Orientation to watch Will Smith take on another alien adventure to save the world by going back in time.

Orientation: Team Trivia

- Location: Powell Center, Knight Club
(10:00 PM - 12:00 AM)
Come out to see how strong you are in "useless" trivia. Don’t have a team? Don’t worry! Teams will be formed at the event. Great prizes awarded throughout the night.
