Book Discussion: ’A Quiet Revolution’
(6:30 PM - 8:00 PM)
- Link: Bridging Cultures Bookshelf: Muslim Journeys
Dr. Christopher Churchill and other faculty from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences will lead a discussion of the book, "A Quiet Revolution: The Veil’s Resurgence from the Middle East to America."
The book’s themes include the politicization of the veil, contemporary Islamic politics, feminist approaches to studying religions, and the challenges of inter-religious and cross-cultural understanding.
This event is part of a "Bridging Cultures Bookshelf" grant awarded to the libraries by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Libraries Association.
Alfred University students in selected classes are reading from the book this semester. Others interested in participating are invited to consult the book at Herrick Library (on reserve) prior to the event.
Refreshments will be provided.
Exhibition of New-realism Paper-cuts
18 pieces of new-realism paper-cuts will be exhibited in the east wing of the first floor in the Herrick Library from Friday, March 29 to Thursday, April 4.
Mr. Min Li, the representative new-realism paper-cuts artist, mixes Western painting and traditional Yuxian techniques (one of the most distinctive traditional paper-cuts arts in China). It initiates a new field which has clear concave-convex, bright colors and 3-dimension perspective. Every product is uniquely designed, measured and practiced by hand.
This exhibition is sponsored by Confucius Institute at Alfred University and it is free to the public.
