Experience Alfred as an ‘arts destination!’ Join the ‘Alfred Art Walk’ Sept. 15
Alfred, NY, arts venues will throw open their doors all at once on Friday, Sept. 15, for the monthly “Gallery Walk” in the village.
Seven galleries and the Alfred Ceramic Art Museum will be open to “encourage collaboration among art venues in Alfred” on both Alfred University and Alfred State College campuses and in the Village of Alfred.
The initiative is designed to “showcase area artists, and national and international talent alike by promoting one evening each month from 6-9 p.m. as a community night for experiencing art.”
Organizers suggest participants start their tours at the Scholes Library Gallery on the Alfred University campus because it will only be open from 5-6 that evening. “The First Line” features work by Andrew Deutsch, a professor of Integrated Electronic Arts at Alfred University, and internationally acclaimed artist Ann Hamilton, curated by Karen Donnellan September 15: OPEN 5 - 6pm
The Alfred Ceramic Art Museum on the Alfred University campus, “Selections from the Permanent Collection.”
The Bret Llewellyn Gallery, Alfred State College campus, “The 17 Day Video Series,” featuring a one-night showing of the entire 10-video series.
Cohen Center Gallery, 55 N. Main St., which will have two concurrent exhibitions by women who graduated from the Alfred University School of Art and Design in 2001. “The Part of Sight” features work by Liz Ainslie, and “Real Lookers” is work by Desiree Leary. The exhibitions will remain on view at the Cohen Gallery from Sept. 15-Oct. 19. The opening reception is 6-9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15.
The Fosdick-Nelson Gallery, Harder Hall on the Alfred University campus, will also open a new exhibition, “Alfred/Dusseldorf MFA in Painting,” featuring work by faculty
members who will teach in the School of Art and Design’s newest Master of Fine Arts degree program. The opening reception is 6-9 p.m. and the exhibition also remains up through Oct. 19.
Gallery 2 Gifts of Distinction, 43 N. Main St., Alfred, features work by more than 30 local artists.
The Robert C. Turner Student Gallery in Harder Hall on the Alfred University campus, “Summer Intern Exhibition.” The show opens Sept. 8 and runs through Sept. 15.
