Lady Saxons come up short against Hartwick
ONEONTA, NY -- The host Hartwick Hawks held off a late Alfred University rally, defeating AU, 57-54, Friday evening in Empire 8 women's basketball action.
Alfred (5-6, 0-3 Empire 8) was behind 25-22 at the half and trailed throughout the second, closing the gap to a single point with 30 seconds left on a three-pointer by junior guard Lyndsay Murphy (Almond, NY/Hornell). Murphy's three made the score 55-54, but Hartwick's Cassie Dresser hit two free throws with 28 seconds left and Alfred missed on a pair of potential game-tying three-pointers in the closing seconds.
