Lady Saxons top Elmira, 70-48

ELMIRA, NY – The Alfred University women’s basketball team defeated Elmira, 70-48, Tuesday evening to give the Lady Saxons their first Empire 8 Conference win of the season.

Autumn McLain (Oneida, NY/Oneida) had a double-double in the game to pace Alfred (6-6, 1-3 Empire 8). McLain scored a game-high 19 points, pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds and had three blocks. Junior guard Courtney Lincoln (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) netted 14 points and had four assists. Junior guard Lyndsay Murphy (Almond, NY/Hornell) scored 13 points and sophomore guard Christina Jordan (Cornwall on Hudson, NY/Cornwall) connected on four of seven three-point attempts to chip in 12 points for Alfred. For the game, AU outshot Elmira 44 percent to 33 percent.

Erin Rupell and Amanda Lawlor each netted 10 points for Elmira (1-11, 0-4 Empire 8) and Becca Fretz and Becky Peterman each chipped in seven points.

Alfred is in action next on Jan. 15 at 6 p.m. at Ithaca.
