Ithaca downs AU men's basketball team

ITHACA, NY -- Host Ithaca defeated the Alfred University men's basketball team, 108-69, Friday evening.

Ithaca (11-4, 4-2 Empire 8) jumped to a 57-32 halftime lead and outscored the Saxons (6-7, 0-5 Empire 8) 51-37 after intermission. The Bombers shots 55 percent from the floor and made 18 of 39 shots (46 percent) from three-point range while outrebounding the Saxons, 49-27. Alfred made 12 three-pointers, but shot only 37 percent from the field overall.

Junior guard Mike Stopera (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) paced Alfred with 27 points on nine-of-18 shooting (seven of 12 from three-point range). Senior forward Ron Smith (Lyons, NY/Lyons) scored 17 points and pulled down seven rebounds and freshman guard Sean Curran (Honesdale, NY/Honesdale) added eight points.

Jordan Marcus scored a game-high 31 points, making eight of 15 three-point shots, and grabbed four rebounds to lead Ithaca. Phil Barera had 19 points and 14 rebounds and Eli Maravich added 15 points.

Alfred is in action next on Friday, Jan. 22, at 8 p.m. at Stevens.
