AU women’s basketball team defeats Nazareth, 56-54

PITTSFORD, NY – The Alfred University women’s basketball team defeated host Nazareth, 56-54, Friday evening in an Empire 8 Conference matchup.

Alfred (9-9, 3-6 Empire 8) led 32-23 at the half. Nazareth closed the gap after intermission and both teams were tied, 54-54, with 30 seconds remaining in the game when junior guard Lyndsay Murphy (Almond, NY/ Hornell) made a layup for the Lady Saxons to give them a 56-54 lead. Nazareth’s last shot attempt by Kelly Dunne was blocked by sophomore guard Christina Jordan (Cornwall on Hudson, NY/Cornwall) to help secure the win for AU.

Senior forward Alysha Dias (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) and Murphy each scored a game-high 13 points to pace Alfred. Junior guard Courtney Lincoln (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) netted twelve points and brought down six rebounds and Jordan added seven points and seven boards.

Brittany Tallchief scored a game-high 13 points and had seven rebounds to lead Nazareth (9-10, 3-7 Empire 8). Kelly Dunne, Brittany Wilson, Ashley Gallgher and Katie Kollar each added seven points.
For the game, Alfred shot 41 percent and Nazareth shot 32 percent.

Alfred is in action next on Jan. 31, at 2 p.m. against Hartwick.
