AU softball team knocks off Carlow

COCOA BEACH, FL – The Alfred University softball team improved to 4-1 on the season with a 9-2 victory over Carlow University Wednesday morning in Cocoa Beach, FL.

Sophomore pitcher Nicole Hedrick (Albany, NY/Catholic Central) improved to 2-1 on the season, hurling a complete game and allowing a pair of unearned runs on six hits and striking out seven. Hedrick helped herself at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a two-run homerun, a double, three runs scored and a stolen base.

Senior third baseman Jesika LeBarron (Campbell, NY/Corning West) went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored; senior second baseman Karen Folts (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan) (double) and freshman catcher Emily Fenton (Thorofare, NJ/West Deptford) each had a hit and an RBI; junior first baseman Ashley Passaro (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach) went 2-for-2 and scored a run; sophomore outfielder Angela Netta (Rahway, NY/Mother Seton Regional) went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored; sophomore outfielder Molly Shepherd (Camillus, NY/West Genesee) drove in two runs; and sophomore third baseman Shanna Ewoldt (Tuscon, AZ/Waubansie Valley) had a double and scored once.

The Saxons’ spring games in Cocoa Beach continue with a pair of contests on Thursday, March 11 — at 11 a.m. against Castleton State and 5 p.m. against Mercy College — and concludes Friday, March 12, with at 9 a.m. game against Felician and an 11 a.m. matchup with Mercy.
