AU women’s lacrosse defeats Keuka

ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University women’s lacrosse team defeated Keuka, 15-5, Wednesday afternoon to earn their first win of the season.

The Lady Saxons led 9-0 at intermission and maintained the lead throughout the second half. AU outshot Keuka, 32-20.

Junior attack Michelle Adams (Horseheads, NY /Horseheads) led Alfred (1-1, 0-0 Empire 8) with four goals and one assist. Senior attack Abbey Schaffnit (Bemus Point, NY/Maple Grove) (one assist) and freshman midfielder Tracie McGinnity (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) each scored three goals. Junior midfielder Elyse Caldwell (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) netted two goals and had one assist and senior attack Emily Tobin (Penfield, NY/Penfield) (one assist), freshman midfielder Devin Fitzgerald (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) (one assist) and sophomore attack Ivy Lam (Sanford, ME/Sanford) each scored one goal.

Brandy Shafer paced Keuka (0-1)with three goals and Courtney Potochniak and Brittany Murray each scored one goal.

Junior Kate Baughman (Rush, NY/Rush-Henrietta) went the distance in goal for Alfred, making 12 saves while allowing five goals. Keuka’s Molly Hogan also went the distance and had 12 saves and allowed 15 goals.

Alfred plays next on Saturday, March 20, at 1 p.m. against Medaille
