Saxons’ basketball coaches raise cancer awareness on Suits and Sneakers Weekend

ALFRED, NY — Alfred University basketball coaches and their counterparts will trade their dress shoes for sneakers this weekend in order to raise awareness for cancer prevention efforts.

For all games played this weekend, Jan. 25-27, basketball coaches across the country will be participating in the Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers awareness program. Co-sponsored by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the American Cancer Society, the program is aimed at creating awareness of the importance of prevention and early detection in combatting cancer.

Coaches will wear sneakers with their suits during games to remind college basketball audiences about the many ways people can reduce their risk of cancer.

Alfred coaches will participate during two Empire 8 Conference contests this weekend. The Saxons’ women’s and men’s teams travel to Pittsford to take on Nazareth on Friday, Jan. 25. Tip-off for the women’s game is 6 p.m.; the men’s game starts at 8 p.m. AU hosts Utica on Saturday: the women’s game starts at 2 p.m. and the men’s game at 4 p.m.
