AU’s Cleary named Empire 8 women’s basketball all-star
ALFRED, NY — Harley Cleary (Rochester, NY/Mercy), a sophomore guard on the Alfred University women’s basketball team, has been named an Empire 8 Conference all-star.
The Empire 8 announced its all-conference teams Thursday (Feb. 21) and Cleary was given honorable mention. It marks the second year Cleary has earned all-conference honors; she was also given honorable mention as a freshman in 2011-12.
Cleary averaged 14 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists for the Saxons, who finished with a 6-19 record overall (1-15 Empire 8) this season. In 16 conference games, she averaged 12.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists.
Each season, the Empire 8 honors students-athletes from each conference school who play on teams sponsored by the conference, with Sportsperson of the Year awards. Honorees, chosen by their coaches, exhibited outstanding sportsmanship in keeping with the conference’s mission of “competing with honor and integrity.” Sophomore forward Brennan Ferguson (Destrechan, LA/Ursuline) is Alfred’s honoree from the women’s basketball team.
