AU men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams place ninth at state championships
ITHACA, NY – The Alfred University men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams each placed ninth at the two-day New York State championships, which concluded today at Ithaca College.
AU sophomore Miasia Hilliman (Buffalo, NY/Hutch Tech) placed third in the 60-meter dash (8.10 seconds, ECAC qualifying) and eighth in the 200-meter dash (27.11 seconds). Hilliman set new school records and qualified for the ECAC indoor championships in the 60 meters (8.08 seconds) and the 200 meters (26.78) during Friday’s preliminary heats.
Other top performers for the Alfred women were junior Liz DeMonte (Melville, NY/Walt Whitman) and AU junior Rebecca Graudons (Mayfield, NY/Mayfield), eighth (1.48 meters) and 10th (1.43 meters), respectively, in the high jump; and senior Amy Morrissey (Hornell, NY/Hornell), 10th in the 500-meter dash (1:27.39). The team of sophomore Patricia Banahene (Rochester, NY/Brighton), DeMonte, Morrissey and sophomore Tracie Forrester (Gainesville, NY/Letchworth) was eighth in the 4X400-meter relay (4:17.89).
Senior Shane Stadtmueller (Red Creek, NY/Red Creek) led the AU men Saturday, finishing fourth in the heptathlon. Stadtmueller accumulated 4,425 points in the heptathlon, which began with four events Friday and wrapped up with the final three Saturday. Junior Mykel Ferguson (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia), Alfred’s other entrant in the event, was 13th with 3,803 points.
Other top performers for the Alfred men were: junior Isaiah Cassin (Candor, NY/Candor), fifth in the high jump (1.93 meters, ECAC qualifying); junior Eddie Potter (Lansing, NY/Lansing), eighth in the 500-meter dash (ECAC-qualifying 1:07.77); and sophomore Nolan Rummel (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park), eighth in the 1,000-meter run (2:38.77).
The AU men’s and women’s teams are in action next on Friday and Saturday, March 1 and 2, at the ECAC indoor championships, hosted by The Armory in New York City.
