Men’s Lacrosse holds off SUNY Brockport, 7-6

ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University men’s lacrosse team won a 7-6 decision over visiting SUNY Brockport, Saturday afternoon at Merrill Field.

AU led at the half 4-3.  The match remained close the rest of the way while the Saxons held off Brockport in the final of the match.

Sophomore midfielder Nicolas Wood (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) led the Saxons, netting two goals.  Senior midfielder Matt Hodnik (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton), senior midfielder Matt Zon (Tonawanda, NY/Sweet Home), and junior attacker Brett Carroll (Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon-St. Jude) also scored a goal apiece.

Junior defender Chris Tauterouff (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) anchored the back line with five caused turnovers and four groundballs.

Sophomore Cody O’Connor (Whitney Point, NY/Whitney Point) went the distance in net for the Saxons, and made a game-high 11 saves to earn his second victory of the season.

AU (2-0, 0-0 Empire 8) returns to action Wednesday, March 6, at 4 p.m., against Hilbert College.
