University’s equestrian teams ride through winning seasons
The Alfred University (AU) Western Equestrian Team won its regional title, for the fifth time, after wrapping up the regular season unbeaten. The Saxons finished first out of five teams competing, giving AU a perfect 8-0 mark for the 2012-13 season. AU beat out teams from Cornell University, Alfred State College, Rochester Institute of Technology, and SUNY (State University of New York) Brockport. Alfred University was named Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 2, Region I champion and qualifies to compete at the IHSA Western Semi-Finals March 23-24 at the Fairplex, in Pomona, CA.
Earlier this semester, the Hunt Seat team won the region for the first time in the history of the AU riding team. As a result, the team will travel to Zone Finals competition where it will vie for an opportunity to go to Nationals. The top two teams from Zones move on. In order to win the region, the English team had to accrue the most points during the regular season shows. AU competed against 10 schools at each competition it attended.
The Zone competition will be on Sunday, April 7, at the North Shore Equestrian Center, C.W. Post College (of Long Island University), 720 Northern Blvd, Greenvale. Go to: www.ihsainc.com for more information, which will be updated regularly.
