AU's Torchia earns ECAC weekly softball honors

ALFRED, NY – Dana Torchia (Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock Twp.), a freshman third baseman on the Alfred University softball team, has been honored by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) for her play last week.

Torchia on Wednesday was named ECAC Upstate Player of the Week. The ECAC accolades follow her being named Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week. Torchia was honored for her play in 12 games last week on the Saxons’ Spring Break trip to Tuscon, AZ. She went a combined 22-for-38 (.579 batting average) with a pair of doubles, six RBIs, 11 runs scored and three stolen bases.

Alfred (4-8) is scheduled to play next on Sunday, March 24, when the Saxons open their new on-campus field with two games against Penn College, beginning at 1 p.m. If those games can't be played as scheduled, Alfred's first home doubleheader would be April 2 at 3 p.m. against RIT.

AU had been slated to play Friday, March 22, in a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Pitt-Bradford, but poor weather postponed those games, which will now be played April 17.
