Five AU riders advance to zones from hunt seat regionals

ALFRED, NY —Alfred University hosted the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 2, Region 1 hunt seat championships on Saturday, March 9.


Five AU riders placed in the top two and qualified to compete in the Zone 2 championships April 7 in Brookville, NY (Long Island University-C.W. Post).


AU freshman Stephanie Zimicki (Lockport, NY/St. Mary’s) too first and was named champion in novice equitation over fences.


Four AU riders took second in their respective events and were named reserve champions: senior Sarah Schron (Whitehall, OH/ECofT) in advanced walk-trot-canter; senior Amelia Keyes (Webster, NY/Penfield) in intermediate equitation over fences; junior Amalia Maslen (Chardon, OH/Andrews Osborne) in intermediate equitation on the flat; and sophomore Casey Duncan (Stuarts Draft, VA/Stuarts Draft) in novice equitation on the flat.


The top two riders in each event at Zones will qualify to compete in the IHSA national championships May 2-5 in Harrisburg, PA.
