AU outdoor track and field teams open season at West Chester
WEST CHESTER, PA – The Alfred University men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams opened their 2013 season at the West Chester Invitational. There were no team scores, but several Saxons turned in solid opening performances.
The Alfred women were led by sophomore Miasia Hilliman (Buffalo, NY/Hutch Tech), junior Elizabeth DeMonte (Melville, NY/Walt Whitman), and senior Kristin Cook (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) each with top-10 finishes. Hilliman was fifth in the 100-meter dash (12.93 seconds), DeMonte was fifth in the high jump (1.52 meters), and Cook was seventh in the discus (32.31 meters). DeMonte also took 18th in the 100-meter hurdles (18.32 seconds).
Other top performers for the Alfred women were: sophomore Alyssa Goot (Cassadaga, NY/Fredonia), 13th in the javelin (28.74 meters); senior Kari Blatz (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon), 16th in the shot put (9.64 meters); and sophomore Tracie Forrester (Gainesville, NY/Letchworth), 18th in the 400-meter hurdles (1:14.90).
Senior Shane Stadtmueller (Red Creek, NY/Red Creek) paced the Saxon men with a 12th-place finish in the pole vault (3.40 meters).
Three AU men placed in the top 20 in the shot put. Freshmen Joe Duermeyer (Corfu, NY/Pembroke) and Phillip Caruso (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) were 13th (12.94 meters) and 18th (12.16), respectively, while sophomore Lucas Marshall (Windsor, NY/Windsor) was 20th (12.00 meters).
Sophomore Sean Locker (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post West) was 13th in the javelin (47.31 meters), and freshman Ethan Foster (Bolivar, NY/Bolivar-Richburg) was 22nd in the 400-meter dash (53.42 seconds).
Alfred’s men’s and women’s teams are in action next on Wednesday, March 27, at the Alfred State College Quad Meet.
