AU Orchestra’s concert features University, ASC soloists
The Alfred University (AU) Orchestra will present a “Collage” concert featuring solo performances and collaborative arrangements by students from the University as well as Alfred State College on Saturday, April 13, at 8 p.m. in Miller Theater. Admission is free and the public is invited.
One of the featured performers will be Scott DeFranco-Norton, an AU senior studying biomedical materials engineering science from Salisbury Mills, who will perform Mozart’s “Horn Concerto in E flat” on the tuba.
Joining the strings in Bach’s “Brandenburg Concerto No. 6” will be soloists Marcus Toedt, principal violist in the Orchestra and a member of the String Quartet, and Lisa Lantz, chair of the Division of Performing Arts, associate professor of music/strings, and music director of the AU Symphony Orchestra. Toedt is a freshman business administration major from Albany.
Flutist Michaela Stone, a senior mathematics and early education major from Hornell, in collaboration with AU Carillonneur Laurel Buckwalter, on harpsichord, and Lantz, will present “Brandenburg concerto, No. 5.”
Other pieces included in the concert program are “Sinfonia No. 2 in D” (Mendelssohn); “Concerto in G. Minor for Two Cellos” (Vivaldi); and “Canon in D” (Pachelbel).
