Men’s Lacrosse loses to Ithaca, 12-2
ITHACA, NY — The Alfred University men’s lacrosse team lost a 12-2 decision to Empire 8 foe Ithaca College, Wednesday evening.
The Saxons struck first at the 10-minute mark of the first quarter when junior midfielder Derek Green (Pittsburgh, PA/Kiski School) notched a goal. The Bombers evened the score at 1-1 within the seven minute mark before taking the lead at 2-1 inside four minutes of the first quarter. Ithaca scored five unanswered goals in the second quarter to head into halftime up 7-1. Ithaca closed out the second half with a 5-1 scoring advantage over AU.
Green and junior midfielder Brendan Sullivan (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) netted a goal apiece.
Sullivan and senior defender Jake Spadoni (Webster, NY/Webster-Schroeder) (caused turnover) finished with three ground balls each.
Sophomore Cody O’Connor (Whitney Point, NY/Whitney Point) led the Saxons with five ground balls and made 10 saves for the 50 minutes he played in net. Senior Justin Becker (Conesus, NY/Livonia) made two saves in the final 10 minutes of the match.
AU (6-2, 0-2 Empire 8) resumes conference play against Utica College on Saturday, April 6, at 1 p.m.
