Jazz Band to offer crowd-pleasing pieces during spring concert
The Alfred University (AU) Jazz Band, under the direction of Dr. Christopher Foster will perform in the Miller Theater on Friday, April 12 at 8 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
Enjoy a wide variety of crowd-pleasing jazz including bebop, Latin and funk. The performance pieces include “Big Dipper” (Jones); “Count Bubba’s Revenge” (Goodwin; “The Cone of Silence” (Fisher); “Softly, as In a Morning Sunrise” (Hammerstein/Romberg); “18th Circle” (Mills); “Angel Eyes” (Brent/Dennis); and “Seven Steps to Heaven” (Davis).
Foster is director of bands and assistant professor of music at AU, directing the Concert Band, Jazz Band, and Brass Choir. He holds a doctor of musical arts degree in performance from the University of North Texas and a master’s degree in music-performance from the University of Nevada-Reno.
He has performed professionally as a freelance musician and with the University of North Texas Wind Symphony, Symphony Orchestra, and Baroque Trumpet Ensemble; the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra; Reno Chamber Orchestra; Nevada Opera; Reno Jazz Orchestra; and the Ruby Mountain Symphony. He has been a guest conductor at the Lake Tahoe Music Camp and has directed concert, jazz, and marching bands in Ely and Las Vegas, NV.
