AU softball weekend home games moved to Hornell High School
ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University softball team’s 2013 home-opening doubleheaders, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, April 5 and 6, on the Saxons’ new on-campus field, have been moved to Hornell High School.
Alfred will play its home opener on Friday at 3 p.m. with two games against Empire 8 Conference rival Ithaca. The Saxons are playing an Empire 8 doubleheader against visiting Utica on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m. The games were to be played on the AU campus, but are being moved to Hornell High School because of poor field conditions caused by inclement weather.
AU (6-8, 2-0 Empire 8) is now scheduled to open its new field with a doubleheader against RIT at 3 p.m. on Monday, April 8. Those games were originally scheduled for March 30 but inclement weather twice forced their postponement (first to April 2). Alfred has two other home doubleheaders on its 2013 schedule: April 14 at 1 p.m. against Penn College and April 19 at 3 p.m. against Houghton College.
Weather has wreaked havoc on the Saxons’ schedule all spring. In addition to the RIT games, the Penn College twinbill, originally scheduled for March 24, was postponed. A trio of road doubleheaders has also been postponed: at Pitt-Bradford (scheduled for March 22; moved to May 17); at Cazenovia (scheduled for March 26; moved to April 18); and at Keuka (scheduled for April 3; moved to May 1).
Alfred last played on Saturday (March 30), when the Saxons opened Empire 8 play with a doubleheader sweep of host Nazareth College. AU won the first game, 8-1, and took the second contest 8-3.
