Bergren Forum speaker to offer personal look, analyzation of 'Brave'
Susan Morehouse, professor of English at Alfred University (AU), will present “Why I Like ‘Brave’: A Memoir of Mothering and Movies” as the next lecture in AU’s ongoing Bergren Forum series.
The lecture will take place on Thursday, April 18 at 12:10 p.m. in Nevins Theater, Powell Campus Center. This event is open to the public free of charge; refreshments will be served.
Morehouse will offer a personal narrative and an analysis of the popular cartoon movie “Brave,” in which the protagonist, Princess Merida, must rely on her courage and her archery skills to dismantle a curse set upon her kingdom.
Morehouse is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the Alfred University Abigail Allen Award in Women’s Studies in 2005 and the AU Kruson Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1997 and 2000. She served as AU’s Gertz Chair of Writing from 2004-07 and has been published in both The Southern Review and Women in World History.
The Bergren Forum, sponsored by the Alfred University Division of Human Studies in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, meets Thursdays during each academic semester at the University. Participants are encouraged to bring a lunch; coffee and tea will be available.
