Elmira holds off Women’s Lacrosse, 11-8

ALFRED, NY –The Alfred University women’s lacrosse team suffered an 11-8 loss to visiting Elmira College, Saturday afternoon at Merrill Field.

Elmira’s 6-3 lead at halftime proved to be the deciding factor in the game. Alfred and Elmira scored five goals each in the second half, but that was not enough to overturn the three goal deficit.

Junior attacker Ashley White (Islip, NY) and sophomore attacker Kaitlyn Button (Cazenovia, NY) (three groundballs, three caused turnovers) each netted two goals apiece to lead the Lady Saxons in scoring. Senior midfielder Tracie McGinnity (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) picked up a game-high six ground balls and caused two turnovers.

Sophomore Taylor Tarajos (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) played the full 60 minutes in net for Alfred, making a game-high seven saves.

Alfred (3-4, 0-4 Empire 8) resumes conference play at Utica College on Friday, April 19, at 4 p.m.
