Saxon men’s tennis team whips Hartwick, evens E8 record

ONEONTA, NY — The Alfred University men’s tennis team won pounded host Hartwick College, 7-2, Sunday afternoon for the Saxons first Empire 8 Conference victory of the season. With the win, AU improved its Empire 8 record to 1-1 (4-6 overall).


The Saxons won five of six singles matches. Freshman Connor Doud (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) won first singles, 6-2, 6-4; sophomore Peter Benoit (Gasport, NY/Barker) won second singles, 6-2, 6-4; freshman Dan Baruch (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) won third singles, 6-3, 6-3; sophomore Michael Graham (Elmira, NY/Southside) won fourth singles, 6-2, 6-3; and senior Trenton Berardi (Warren, PA/Warren) won sixth singles by forfeit.


AU took two of three doubles matches, as Graham and Berardi won second doubles, 8-6; and Baruch and sophomore Lucas Krenzer (Rochester, NY/Wheatland-Chili) won third doubles, 8-4.


AU is in action next on Wednesday, April 17, at 4 p.m. at home against Elmira.
