Women’s Lacrosse falls to Utica, 16-9

UTICA, NY –The Alfred University women’s lacrosse team fell in a 16-9 decision to Empire 8 foe, Utica College, Friday evening on the road.

Utica held a 9-5 lead heading into the half, despite the three Alfred goals netted by junior attacker Ashley White (Islip, NY). Utica outscored Alfred 7-4 in the second half to build on their lead and secure the win.  

White finished with a game-high four goals and picked up four ground balls. Senior midfielder Ali Garcia (Salt Lake City, UT/Judge Memorial) and sophomore attacker Kaitlyn Button (Cazenovia, NY) scored three and two goals each.

Freshman defender Kerry Mack (Weedsport, NY/Jordan-Elbridge) led the Lady Saxons with four caused turnovers on defense. Senior midfielder Tracie McGinnity (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili), sophomore midfielder Sarah Evans (Lafayette, NY/Manlius Pebble Hill), and sophomore midfielder Haley Nannig (North Kingston, RI/North Kingston) also combined to cause six turnovers with two apiece.

Sophomore Taylor Tarajos (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) picked up a game-best seven ground balls and saved a game-high 11 shots while in net for AU during the full 60 minutes of play.

Alfred (3-5, 0-5 Empire 8) returns to action against Ithaca College on Saturday, April 20, at 1 p.m.
