Hartwick edges Men’s Lacrosse, 11-9

ONEONTA, NY — The Alfred University men’s lacrosse team fell, 11-9, on the road against Hartwick College, Saturday afternoon.

The Saxons trailed 6-5 to Hartwick at the half, led by junior attacker Brett Carroll (Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon-St. Jude) and junior midfielder Derek Green (Pittsburgh, PA/The Kiski School) whom each scored a pair of goals.

Freshman midfielder Tanner Morse (Corning, NY/Corning East) netted an unassisted goal with 8:09 left in regulation, giving Alfred a 9-8 lead. Hartwick scored three unanswered goals inside of the four-minute mark to give them the 11-9 victory.

Carroll, Green, and junior midfielder Ben Demarco (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown (Mars Hills)) all finished with two goals each to pace the Saxons.  

Senior defender Jake Spadoni (Webster, NY/Webster-Schroeder) picked up a game-high seven ground balls and caused a game-best five turnovers for the Saxons defense.

Senior Justin Becker (Conesus, NY/Livonia) played 58 minutes in net, making 15 saves.  

This game concludes the 2013 season for Alfred (7-6, 1-6 Empire 8).
