Women’s Lacrosse outlasts SUNY Canton, 18-13

ALFRED, NY –The Alfred University women’s lacrosse beat visiting SUNY Canton, 18-13, Sunday afternoon to wrap up the 2013 season.  This win improves AU to 5-7 overall (0-7 Empire 8) on the season.

SUNY Canton established a 10-8 lead going into halftime. Sophomore attacker Kaitlyn Button (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) opened the second half with back-to-back goals at the 28:20 and 26:32 minute marks to tie the score at 10-10. Sophomore midfielder Haley Nannig (North Kingston, RI/North Kingston) netted a goal at the 26:03 minute mark to give Alfred the 11-10 lead. Alfred did not look back and held the lead for the remainder of the match.

Button finished the contest with a game-high seven goals to lead the Lady Saxons. Garcia and junior attacker Ashley White (Islip, NY/Islip) finished with five goals apiece and won six and eight draw controls. Senior midfielder Tracie McGinnity (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) picked up a game-best five ground balls and caused two turnovers.   

Sophomore Taylor Tarajos (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) made 15 saves, for the full 60 minutes in net for AU.
