AU set to compete at state outdoor track and field championships

CANTON, NY — The Alfred University men’s and women’s track and field teams will be competing this weekend at the New York State outdoor championship meet, hosted by St. Lawrence University.

AU is among 12 schools with men’s and women’s teams competing at the meet, which is being held Friday and Saturday, May 3 and 4. Field events on Friday begin at 2 p.m., with track events starting at 3 p.m. Saturday’s field and track events both start at 10 a.m. Live results and a schedule of events are available on-line.

The Alfred women took seventh and the Saxon men placed eighth at last year’s state outdoor championships.

This year, AU junior Rebecca Graudons (Mayfield, NY/Mayfield) will try to make it three state outdoor titles in a row in the women’s pole vault, and sophomore Miasia Hillman (Buffalo, NY/Hutch Tech) will try to improve on a fourth-place finish in the women’s 100-meter dash.

On the men’s side, three runners -- senior Randy Brito (New York, NY/Cardinal Hayes), junior Eddie Potter (Lansing, NY/Lansing) and sophomore Nolan Rummel (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) – return from a team that took second in the 4X400-meter relay at last year’s state meet.
