AU men’s and women’s teams compete at state outdoor track and field meet
CANTON,NY-- The Alfred University men’s and women’s outdoor track and field team competed on the first day of theNew YorkStatechampionship meet, hosted by St. Lawrence University.
Several Saxons fared well in individual events and the men’s and women’s squads each had a relay team place in the top 10.
Sophomore Greg Pomarico (Liberty, PA/Liberty) was third in the javelin (49.65 meters) and senior Chris Lopez (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) was sixth in the long jump (6.36 meters) to lead the AU men.
Junior Eddie Potter (Lansing, NY/Lansing), freshman Ethan Foster (Bolivar, NY/Bolivar-Richburg), senior Shane Stadtmueller (Red Creek, NY/Red Creek) and sophomore Nolan Rummel (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) took fifth in the 4X800-meter relay (8:03.50).
Junior Rebecca Graudons (Mayfield, NY/Mayfield), the two-time defending state champ in the women’s pole vault, finished seventh in the event (3.00 meters). Sophomore Alyssa Goot (Cassadaga, NY/Fredonia) was 14th in the javelin (27.53) and junior Corine Pettit (Strykersville, NY/Holland) was 23rd in the long jump (4.35 meters).
The team of sophomore Tracie Forrester (Gainesville, NY/Letchworth), seniors Amy Morrissey (Hornell, NY/Hornell) and Jennifer Miranda (Bronx, NY/Academy of Letters) and junior Chelsea Hall (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) were eighth in the 4X800-meter relay (10:24.90).
The championships conclude on Saturday, with field and track events both starting at 10 a.m. Live results and a schedule of events are available on-line.
