Saxons’ Garcia named Empire 8 women’s lacrosse all-star
ALFRED, NY — Ali Garcia (Salt Lake City, UT/Judge Memorial), a senior midfielder on the Alfred University women’s lacrosse team, has been named an Empire 8 Conference all-star.
The Empire 8 announced its all-conference teams today and Garcia was given honorable mention. All-conference awards are based on a vote by Empire 8 coaches using statistics from conference games only.
Garcia played in all seven of Alfred’s Empire 8 games and had 18 points on 13 goals and five assists. She also had 14 groundballs and caused nine turnovers. In 11 games played overall this season, she had 36 points on 23 goals and 13 assists while adding 30 groundballs and 13 caused turnovers.
Each season, the Empire 8 honors students-athletes from each conference school, who play on conference-sponsored teams, with Sportsperson of the Year awards. Honorees, chosen by their coaches, exhibit outstanding sportsmanship in keeping with the conference’s mission of “competing with honor and integrity.” Senior midfielder Tracie McGinnity (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) is Alfred’s honoree from the women’s lacrosse team.
