Saxons compete at first day of ECAC outdoor meet
SPRINGFIELD, MA -- The Alfred University men's and women's track and field teams began competition at the ECAC outdoor championships, being held Thursday and Friday, May 16 and 17, at Springfield College.
Two members of the AU women's team competed Thursday. Sophomore Miaisia Hillman (Buffalo, NY/Hutch Tech) ran the preliminary heats of the 100-meter dash. She did not advance to Friday's finals and will finish 15th with a time of 12.42 seconds. Junior Rebecca Graudons (Mayfield, NY/Mayfield) was 20th in the pole vault (3.39 meters).
The AU men's team of senior Chris Lopez (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland), junior Eddie Potter (Lansing, NY/Lansing), sophomore Nolan Rummel (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) and freshman Gregory Matos (Bronx, NY/ELLIS Prep) placed 11th in the 4X400-meter relay (3:21.44).
Hillman will run the 200-meter dash and junior Liz DeMonte (Melville, NY/Walt Whitman) will compete in the high jump today and three members if the AU men's team will compete in individual events as well: Lopez in the long jump; junior Isaiah Cassin (Candor, NY/Candor) in the high jump; and Matos in the 400-meter dash.
Also on Friday, Potter, Rummel, freshman Ethan Foster (Bolivar, NY/Bolivar-Richburg) and senior Jeremy Weaver (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic) will run the 4X800-meter relay.
