AU track and field teams wrap up seasons at ECAC outdoor meet

SPRINGFIELD, MA – The Alfred University men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams concluded their 2013 season Friday at the ECAC Championship meet at Springfield College. Neither AU team scored at the two-day meet, but several Saxon athletes turned in solid performances.


Senior Chris Lopez (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) and senior Shane Stadtmueller (Red Creek, NY/Red Creek) each just missed scoring (top eight), placing ninth in the long jump (6.66 meters) and decathlon (5,683 points), respectively. Sophomore Miasia Hillman (Buffalo, NY/Hutch Tech) and junior Liz DeMonte (Melville, NY/Walt Whitman) each took 21st for the AU women Friday: Hillman in the 200-meter dash (25.72 seconds) and DeMonte in the high jump (1.54 meters).


Stadtmueller turned in the following results in the decathlon, held over two days: 100-meter dash (11.75 seconds), long jump (5.79 meters), shot put (12.01 meters), high jump (1.74 meters), 400-meter dash (53.36 seconds), 110-meter hurdles (18.58 seconds), discus (30.00 meters), pole vault (3.55 meters), javelin (37.66 meters), and 1,500-meter run (4:28.95).


Two other Alfred men competed in individual events Friday. Junior Isaiah Cassin (Candor, NY/Candor) took 20th in the high jump (1.86 meters) and freshman Gregory Matos (Nronx, NY/ELLIS Prep) was 26th in the 400-meter dash (50.61 seconds).


The AU men’s team of freshman Ethan Foster (Bolivar, NY/Bolivar-Richburg), junior Eddie Potter (Lansing, NY/Lansing), sophomore Nolan Rummel (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) and senior Jeremy Weaver (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic) took 17th in the 4X800-meter relay (8:03.55).
