Alfred University’s Spadoni named USILA All-American
ALFRED, NY — Jake Spadoni (Webster, NY/Webster Shroeder), a senior defender on the Alfred University men’s lacrosse team, has been named an All-American.
The United State Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) released its Division III All-American teams Tuesday and Spadoni earned honorable mention. He becomes the Saxons’ first All-American since former attackman David Vail was given honorable mention by the USILA in 2004.
It is the second significant award this year for Spadoni, who earlier this month was named a First Team Empire 8 Conference all-star. He had a league-high 25 caused turnovers in seven Empire 8 Conference games to go with 32 groundballs. In 13 games overall this year, Spadoni had 50 groundballs and 40 caused turnovers and the Saxons went 7-6 and earned a berth in the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Championship tournament.
Spadoni leaves AU as one of the top defenders in school history, starting all four seasons in a Saxon uniform. He is the school’s career leader in caused turnovers – a stat that became official in 2007 – with 143. In 58 career games, he had 194 groundballs as well as one goal and an assist.
Spadoni graduated from AU on May 18 with a bachelor’s degree in early childhood/childhood education.
