Sigma Xi chapter inducts 12 into science research society
Sigma Xi, the international scientific research society has announced that twelve Alfred University students have been inducted into the research honor society for the 2012-13 academic year.
Membership to Sigma Xi is by invitation and nominations are made by the faculty based on initial research achievement in a field of pure or applied science or displaying aptitude for future research. All Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Environmental Studies, and Physics students are eligible for nomination.
This year’s honorees are: Biology - Briana Cappiello, East Rochester; Kirstin Cook, Tonawanda; Morgan Dalis, Bayville; Julia Patterson, Berne; Chelsea Vallone, Webster; Chemistry - Brennan Ferguson, Destrehan, LA; Timothy Johnson, Allport, PA; Danica Ostrander, Cortland; Lee Ann Tindell, Warsaw; Engineering - Ryan Dempsey, Whitesville; Samuel Miller Kinsman, Ohio; and Physics - Anthony Gai, Burke, VA.
Recently re-established on the Alfred University campus, Sigma Xi aims to promote multidisciplinary research and honor scientific achievement. Faculty members may also be accepted into membership.
