Alumnus artist captures ‘portrait’ of the disadvantaged
A feature article by Amy Saunders in the June 27, 2013 edition of The Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch, chronicles the four-year mission taken by Joe Anastasi, AU Class of 1970, to tell the story of homeless people he met serving meals, through his paintings and drawings. Joe felt if he could capture their spirit in his art, it would transcend “just paintings of homeless people” and become meaningful.
The results of Joe’s work has culminated in “Art & Soul: An Intimate Portrait,” open to the public in the St. Joseph Cathedral Undercroft Gallery, 212 E. Broad St., Columbus, Saturdays from 6:30-8 p.m. and Sundays, 11:30 a.m-2 p.m. beginning Saturday, June 28 and running through Sunday, Aug. 4, 2012. The paintings are for sale with at least 25 percent of the proceeds to benefit the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Community Shelter Board.
