Senior mechanical engineering student receives scholarship
Douglas Sassaman, a senior mechanical engineering major in the Kazuo Inamori School of Engineering at Alfred University, is a recipient of this year’s Irma and Robert Bennett Scholarship from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Auxiliary.
Saraswati Sahay, chair of the ASME Auxiliary’s Undergraduate Scholarships Committee, told Sassaman that there were a “large number” of applicants for the scholarship and “competition was tough.”
According to Sahay, Sassaman “should be proud” of his accomplishments that earned the award for Sassaman.
A graduate of Saucon Valley Senior High School and a son of Kirk and Vicky Sassaman of Hellertown, PA, Sassaman is also the recipient of an E-LEAD scholarship from Alfred University.
Funded by a National Science Foundation grant to Alfred University, the E-LEAD scholarships provide recipients with up to $10,000 a year in scholarship aid, plus offer leadership training through the Judson Leadership Center at AU.
