ALFRED, NY – Paul Vecchio, director of athletics at Alfred University, announces the appointment of Joshua Long as assistant athletic trainer.
Long comes to AU from North Carolina Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount, NC, where he had served since 2009 as assistant athletic trainer, adjunct faculty member, and assistant strength and conditioning specialist.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in sports medicine (concentration in athletic training) from Mercyhurst University in 2006 and went on to earn a Master’s of Science degree in athletic training from Ohio University in 2009.
Long served as a personal trainer at Chautauqua Institute in Chautauqua, NY, from 2006-12 and was a graduate athletic trainer at Ohio University from 2008-09. He also worked as head athletic trainer for the Southern Ohio Copperheads baseball team, Athens, OH (2008); and as athletic trainer at Precision Orthopaedics Specialties, Inc., Chardon, OH (2007-08), and St. Vincent Health Systems, Erie, PA (2006-07).
“Josh comes to us with significant athletic training and teaching experience, having spent the past four years at North Carolina Wesleyan where he oversaw football and softball in addition to his teaching duties,” Vecchio commented. “As a former college soccer player he has a great understanding of the challenges of being a student-athlete and will serve as a great mentor to our students in our rapidly-growing athletic training curriculum. I am excited to have him join the staff under the direction of Jessica Hurlbut, our head athletic trainer.”
