It’s a ‘Fiat’ celebration!

The current staff of the Fiat Lux, the University’s student newspaper, is planning several events on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013 to commemorate the paper’s 100th anniversary this fall. Alumni are invited back to campus to honor the vibrant and rich history of the paper and its promising future.

Events will include a half-day conference for current students featuring alumni-led sessions and a question-and-answer career panel from 1 to 4 p.m. This will be followed by a banquet at 5 p.m. with keynote speaker, as-yet-unnamed. A late-night dance open to all students and alumni will close the activities from 10:30 p.m.-1 a.m.

The students ask that all alumni interested in participating in either the conference or banquet, or both, R.S.V.P. by Thursday, Oct. 10 to Presentation proposals may be on any topic related to journalism or careers in the field and should include a short synopsis.

In addition, the Fiat Lux staff plans to publish a 100th anniversary edition of the paper containing the paper’s history, personal stories, and a chronological listing of the paper’s leadership. The paper will be published on Monday, Oct. 21 – the actual calendar day the first paper was published. Even if alumni are unable to return for the on-campus event, personal stories and confirmation of leadership would be gratefully received and considered for inclusion in this issue.
