Men’s Soccer outlast Hilbert, 3-1
ALFRED, NY- The Alfred University men’s soccer team picked up their first home victory on Merrill Field, Tuesday evening, with a 3-1 victory over visiting Hilbert College.
Controlling the tempo most of the game, the Saxons held a 15-11 shot advantage along with a five to three corner kick advantage. Senior midfielder Zachary Kranefeld (Millville, NJ/Millville) struck first for AU at the 31st minute, netting a header served by freshman midfielder Richard Lander (Narrowsburg, NY/South Sullivan). Sophomore midfielder Omar Mohamed (Rochester, NY/Edison) scored off a penalty kick in the 43rd minute, giving the Saxons a 2-0 lead at the half.
Freshman defender James Piombino (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) connected with Lander for a goal at the 73rd minute to secure the Saxon win.
Senior goalie Samuel Guy (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) and senior Jacob Bird (Auburn, NY/Skaneateles) each played a half in net for AU, with two and five saves.
AU (2-3-0, 0-0-0 Empire 8) heads to Marywood on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 3 p.m. for a non-conference matchup.
