Men's tennis ousted from USTA/ITA regionals
ITHACA, NY – Four members of the Alfred University men’s tennis team competing this weekend at the United States Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (USTA/ITA) Regional Championships were eliminated during Friday's first round of competition.
The regional championships began Friday, Sept. 20, and run through Sunday, Sept. 22 and are being hosted by Ithaca College. Two members of the AU men’s tennis team competed in singles play and two more in doubles.
AU sophomore Connor Doud (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) and senior Peter Benoit (Gasport, NY/Barker) were in the 64-player singles field. Doud lost to Joshua Jachuk of the University of Rochester, 6-4, 6-1 and Benoit fell to Jimmy Sherpa of Skidmore, the tournament’s third-seeded singles player, 6-2, 7-5.
AU junior Michael Graham (Elmira, NY/Southside) and freshman Evan Haskins (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) were entered in the 32-team doubles field. They fell to the seventh-seeded team of Billy Buchbinder and Howard Telson of The College of New Jersey, 8-2.
The AU men's and women's team each play at Oswego today at noon.
