Alfred University men’s tennis team blanks Lycoming in fall season opener
ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men’s tennis team opened its four-match fall season with a 9-0 victory over visiting Lycoming College on Sunday.
In singles play, AU got wins from sophomore Connor Doud (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa), 6-0, 6-0 in first singles; senior Peter Benoit (Gasport, NY/Barker), 6-0, 6-1 in second singles; junior Michael Graham (Elmira, NY/Southside), 5-7, 6-1, 10-7 in third singles; freshman Evan Haskins (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North), 8-5 in fourth singles; senior Peter Teller (Granville, NY/Granville), 8-1 in fifth singles; and junior Dalton Divine (Holland Patent, NY/Holland Patent). 8-4 in sixth singles.
Doud and Benoit took first doubles, 8-4; Graham and Haskins won second doubles, 8-2; and senior Trenton Berardi (Warren, PA/Warren) and sophomore Matt Baloga (Goshen, NY/Goshen) claimed third doubles, 8-3.
The AU men (1-0) play next on Sunday, Sept. 29, at 10 a.m. against Hamilton College, at Elmira College. The Saxons’ opening fall match, Saturday at Oswego, was postponed and will be made up at a later date. The team’s other fall match is set for Sunday, Oct. 6, at 1 p.m. at home against Daemen.
