Softball team holds alumni gathering
ALFRED, NY — Rain didn’t dampen the spirits of several former Alfred University softball players who gathered on campus last weekend for the first of what the program hopes will be an annual team alumni reunion.
Ten former Saxons came to the AU campus on Saturday, Sept. 20, with plans to play an alumni game at Harrington Park, the University’s new on-campus field. Steady rain on Saturday forced the cancellation of the game, but the former players took advantage of the chance to meet and reminisce.
Head coach Gino Olivieri was pleased with the event, despite the poor weather.
“Even though the Alumni game was cancelled because of all the rain Saturday, we still had a great turnout,” said Olivieri, who noted more players had planned to attend, but changed their plans in the wake of poor weather forecast for Saturday.
Players attended the football team’s game Saturday afternoon, then met afterward at the Connors Family Pavilion near Yunevich Stadium to talk and exchange memories. Olivieri said the group has plans to hold another reunion next fall. “Although it rained all day, it was a success and should be a bigger event next year as many more (former players) have responded to plans for next year’s game,” he said.
Following are the former AU softball players who attended the alumni gathering last weekend: Chelsey Cary, Brittany Loucks, Laura Haas, Jesika LeBarron, Brandi Pendergast, Nicole Messura, Amy Plank, Hana Gross, Lauren Peterson and Courtney Briganti.
