Earlier this fall, the WLA was selected as a NASPA Spotlight Series award winner for Influences on Student Learning. As part of this recognition, the WLA is contending for the Spotlight Program of the Year award during the organization’s annual convention on March 15-19, 2014 in Baltimore.

The WLA is a credit-bearing, intensive leadership development experience for selected students. Members have opportunities for leadership involvement through field trips, conferences, speeches, workshops with professional mentors, leadership internships, and sponsored research. Each member also takes courses in “Gender and Leadership,” which explores topics of gender, leadership theory, feminism, politics, economics, communication, persuasion, power, privilege, and ethics.

Members are also eligible for several awards, including the Bernstein Leadership Award, the WLC Research Award, and the Alpha Kappa Omicron Award. Acceptance to the Academy is selective and is open to sophomore, junior, and senior men and women.
