Alumna painter offers ‘Night and Day’ exhibit
Alumna Gay Summer (Sadow) Rick, class of 1979, opened a solo exhibition at the bG Gallery (Bleicher/Golightly/Gorman) Oct. 3 and will be on hand for an opening reception Saturday, Oct. 5, from 6-10 p.m.
“Gay Summer Rick: Series in Night and Day” will be on display through Wednesday, Oct. 30 (note: the gallery will be closed for a private event Oct. 10). The bG Gallery is at 1431 Ocean Ave., Santa Monica, CA (complimentary valet parking in the building during the reception).
This is Gay’s third solo exhibition of paintings at bG Gallery. For her new show, the Malibu (CA) artist has created paintings inspired by her travels up and down the Los Angeles coastline. She has stopped on roads and highways across Malibu, Santa Monica, and Venice absorbing the nighttime and daytime urban and coastal views. With palette knives and oil paint, Gay’s signature overlay of colors, which meld impressionism and abstract color-field painting, speak as much about the emotion evoked by a place as they do about the place itself. Two different cities are evoked through paint: one bathed in color and sunlight between veils of fog, and one where the color seeps in behind the darkness of night.

The bG is open: Thursday - Saturday 1-10 p.m.; Sunday – Wednesday, 1-7 p.m.; and by appointment. Call 310. 878. 2784 or 310. 451. 9983 for more information.
