AU volleyball team drops two at Empire 8 Conference Crossover

ELMIRA, NY – The Alfred University women’s volleyball team lost two matches Saturday at the Empire 8 Conference Crossover Tournament. The Saxons fell 3-0 to Stevens and 3-1 to Hartwick in matches played at Elmira College.

 AU lost to Hartwick by scores of 18-25, 25-20, 21-25 and 14-25. Senior Paige Jensen (Weiser, ID/Weiser) had 12 kills and senior Janelle Gallipeau (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) had 37 assists, eight digs and two service aces to pace the Saxons. Senior Core’ Oppliger (Neuchatel, Switzerland/Lycee Jean-Piaget) had seven kills and four blocks; senior Kelsey Brand (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) had seven kills; and junior Taylor Kiernan (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) had 21 digs.

The Saxons fell to Stevens by scores of 25-9, 25-21, and 25-18. Brand (four blocks) and seniors Samantha Wood (Newfield, NY/Newfield) and Chelsea Hall (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) each had three kills; Oppliger had five blocks; Kiernan had nine digs; and Gallipeau had six assists.

Alfred is in action next on Saturday, Oct. 12, at 11 a.m. at home against Keuka.
