Saxons split pair at AU tri-match
ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday at the AU-hosted tri-match with SUNY Cobleskill and Keuka. The Saxons topped Cobleskill, 3-2, and lost to Keuka, 3-0.
In the win over Cobleskill, AU (3-18) won by scores of 25-21, 24-26, 28-26, 19-25 and 15-6. Senior Core’ Oppliger (Neuchatel, Switzerland/Lycee Jean-Piaget) had 13 kills and four blocks and senior Janelle Gallipeau (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) had 46 assists and 23 digs to lead Alfred.
Senior Chelsea Hall (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) had 11 kills and 17 digs; senior Kelsey Brand (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) had 10 kills and a pair of blocks; senior Samantha Wood (Newfield, NY/Newfield) had nine kills, seven assists and four blocks; senior Paige Jensen (Weiser, ID/Weiser) had eight kills and seven digs; and junior Taylor Kiernan (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) had 28 digs.
In the match against Keuka, Brand had seven kills and four digs; Oppliger had four kills and three blocks; Wood had six blocks; Kiernan had 14 digs; Hall had three kills and 12 digs; and Gallipeau had 17 assists.
Alfred is in action next on Tuesday, Sept, 15, at 7 p.m. at home against Hilbert.
