Late push gives Women's Soccer win over Maritime, 3-2

THROGGS NECK, NY-  The Alfred University women's soccer team downed SUNY Maritime, 3-2, on the road Sunday afternoon. This win improves the Lady Saxons to 5-10 (0-6 Empire 8) and drops Maritime to 10-9 on the season.

Maritime struck first with back-to-back goals before junior defender Patricia Banahene (Brighton, NY/Brighton) netted a goal served by freshman midfielder Keturah Gordon (Boston, MA/Boston Latin) at the 25 minute mark to bring the score to 2-1 at halftime.

Freshman defender Hayley Hammer (Angola, NY/Lake Shoreopened the second half, serving a ball to Gordon to even the score at 2-2. Freshman midfielder Mariana Crevison (Scottsville, NY/Wheatland-Chili) rounded out scoring for AU at the 60 minute mark, sealing the victory at 3-2 as time expired. 

For the game, Alfred held a 21-17 shot advantage over Maritime.

Senior goalie Samijo Scheer (Corning, NY/Corning East) split halves with junior Alicia Hanes (Vestal, NY/Vestal)  in net, each grabbing two and three saves. 

AU next faces non-conference opponent Daemen College at home on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m.
